Disintegrating chess board with black holes

One of a series of chess based pieces. A sculptural piece consisting of what looks like a chess board that is disintegrating at one side.
A second look at the chess board reveals that the squares that are drifting away from the board are all white squares and that there are no black squares on the board at all. What appear to be black squares in the intact part of the board are in fact nothing more than the shapes formed by the black sides of the pillars that compose the white squares.
