Contemporary art trompe l-oeil door in art gallery

Height discrimination gallery

A visualisation for the concept of a room in an art gallery, access to which is restricted to people who are below a certain height.
The work deals with discrimination and privilege, especially the types of privilege that frequently go unrecognised (unlike, for instance, those associated with race or gender).
It takes as its starting point the concept that people who are taller than average are often discriminated in favour of, usually unconsciously.
In this work tall people are actively discriminated against by being denied access to a room in an art gallery.
The tall people will (hopefully) be a little put out by their denial of access, even though they are probably unaware of how much in everyday life their height more often opens doors for them rather than closes them.
The gallery would of course have height-registering security beams inside in order to detect over-tall people who had ducked through the entrance.
