Levitating ring of document clips sculpture
Document clips, mirror. 25x1000x1000cm. September 2026 –
A new iteration of my sculpture of a ring of document clips. This version features a larger mirror than previous versions, giving the impression of the ring of clips floating in the sky. Previous versions with smaller mirrors give an impression closer to the ring being suspended in a ‘portal’ between different dimensions.
The work is one of my sculptures that utilise common household items or similar mundane objects.
I like working with mundane objects partly because I like the concept of transformation itself: the fact that a mundane object can become an artistic object hopefully has resonances that can be applied in other areas of activity and thought.
In this work for example, the fact that something as mundane as a document clips can achieve a state of levitation by forming a circle with other similar document clips seems to send out a message of transcendence as well as transformation.
The concept is also quite humorous.
